Jim's travel buddies are those who travel with Jim. That could be anyone. That could be you!
However, in order for Jim Monkey to see the world without incident or complications, and in order for his journey to be properly documented, certain conditions must be met before you can become Jim's travel buddy.
1. You must have plans to travel somewhere.
2. You must be adventurous and willing to meet and engage with new people. You will be expected to hand Jim Monkey to the next assigned travel buddies, if possible, who will take him along on the next leg of his journey around the world. This hand-off is an important aspect of this project. It is your chance to interact with interesting people, possibly from a different background and culture, speaking a different language from your own. But don't worry, all participants will be expected to be able to communicate in English.
Additionally, you might be able to meet one of our Local Hosts along the way, a great opportunity to learn about your destination from a local. Who knows, you might even make a new friend.
Keep in mind that the hand-off of Jim Monkey to the next travel buddy and interaction with Local Hosts are important events. They should be captured, if possible, on a digital camera or digital video camera, maybe even both.
3. You must be able to provide digital photos and videos of Jim's journey. We are not asking you to produce a documentary, but highlights of Jim's trip must be documented in this way. Just be creative, make it fun and original. And don't worry about editing, we'll handle all of that.
4. You must write about the highlights of Jim's trip from his point of view (in the first person), so that your writing can become a chapter in Jim's travel journal. Please make sure it is a minimum of 2 pages long (typed). Also, you must be proficient in written English. We will edit and correct your journal entry as necessary. Begin with the moment Jim Monkey joined you, write about the special things he did on his trip, then end with the hand-off to the next travel buddies.
5. IMPORTANT: You MAY NOT divulge Jim's location, travel details, pictures, videos, writings to ANYONE other than jimmonkey.com! Visitors to JimMonkey.com must be able to view these details on our site for the first time. By sumitting the application form you are agreeing to abide by these requirements. We want to ensure the integrity of Jim's journey. Many depend on his travels to go smoothly. For this they are counting on all those involved to be responsible and respectful in their treament of this project. Jim depends on you and the very important organizations who will benefit from your participation depend on you too. Let's make it a great journey...together!
6. You will have to provide detailed contact information and travel plans so that the most suitable destination and travel buddies can be selected for Jim Monkey.
7. You MUST have fun with Jim! Be creative in this process.
8. You MUST read our Terms of Use before you continue.
9. At the end of your trip you will be required to provide the following information:
» All pictures and videos of Jim.
» Jim's journal entry.
All material regarding Jim's trip with you, pictures, videos, journal entries and any other material you may wish to submit in order to document this leg of Jim's journey, must be mailed to us. We will send you an email containing the address where you must send the material.
If possible, please include your pictures, video footage and journal entry on one or more DVDs or CDs. Otherwise you may send the required materials contained on the following storage devices: compact flash card (CF), secure digital card (SD), USB flash drive (USB stick). We strongly suggest using the DVD or CD option since we will NOT return the media you send.
Jim's trip with you will not only be fun and rewarding, it will be the experience of a lifetime for you, Jim and all our friends and visitors who are watching every step of the way! You'll be proud to have been a part of this worthwhile project.
