An Example of Jim Monkey's Marketplace in 5 Easy Steps

Marketplace screenshotDo you have an item you don't use anymore, something you might otherwise just give away or sell online, perhaps just throw in the trash even though it's still useful and not broken? Consider the Jim Monkey Marketplace alternative. You can donate the item by listing it right here for a resonable price. Potential "buyer donors" of your item submit payment for your actual shipping costs directly to you and make a minimum donation in the amount of the suggested value to us.

50% of ALL donations we receive are passed on to important charities fighting childhood cancer and the inherited chronic disease cystic fibrosis. The balance goes towards our operating expenses in order to continue Jim Monkey's primary cause of helping those in need.

There are NO membership, application or service fees associated with the Marketplace, and it's a great way to help out and reorganize your home at the same time.

Jim's Marketplace is a one-of-a-kind tool that makes everyone happy! Perhaps you even have ideas geared towards utilizing the marketplace to raise these urgently needed contributions. Maybe you enjoy arts & crafts and would like to make regular contributions with your hobby. The sky's the limit!

"Seller Donors"

So let's say you're a techno-freak like I am, and you have a boat-load of computers and laptops collecting on a shelf in your garage. Now, you know that laptop computer, although it runs great, won't sell for more than $50 because it's considered "obsolete", even though you bought it just two years ago. You don't use it, you probably never will again. So list it on Jim's Marketplace. List it for $50, for example, you know you won't recover what you paid for it. At least it's out of your garage. The "buyer donor" contacts you, you both agree to commit to the transaction, and he submits a payment to you for the actual shipping costs (which you MUST include in your listing to the best of your ability), submits a payment for at least $50 to us as a donation, and you send the laptop to the "buyer donor".

However, you ONLY ship the item, if two events have occurred:
1. You have received the shipping costs from the "buyer donor", and
2. You have received an email from OTC confirming the "buyer donor's" donation to OTC. This email should reflect all the details of the "buyer donor's" donation, excluding, of course, private and confidential payment details.

If you have received your shipping payment from the "buyer donor", but have NOT received an email confirming the "buyer donor's" donation to OTC, please contact our Support Center. Make sure to include item numbers and titles of the items in question.

At this stage you are now obligated to send the item you listed to the "buyer donor".

Your shelf is missing an item you didn't want or need. The "buyer donor" has obtained something useful that he or she wanted and paid very little to obtain. The charities we support benefit from 50% of the proceeds, and the engine that makes it all happen, JimMonkey.com, is kept running. Everyone benefits!

"Buyer Donors"

Looking for a great deal? Want to help those in need at the very same time? You've come to the right place.

You're browsing the site looking for good deals on all kinds of stuff. You find a laptop listed for $50, for example. You contact the "seller donor" and you both agree to follow through with the transaction.

It is important for "buyer donors" to clearly mark their shipping payments and donation transactions with the respective item ID numbers and item titles in the "comment" space provided during checkout. This will provide the documentation needed for "buyer donors" and "seller donors" to track the transaction.

You are now obligated to:
1. Submit payment to the "seller donor" for the actual shipping costs of the item, which should be included in the listing (provided by the "seller donor" to the best of his/her knowledge). If not included, you both must agree on a shipping price.
2. Submit your donation to OTC, via the "Your Contributions" link ONLY, for at least the listed value of the item ($50 as per our example). Feel free to donate more than merely the listed value.

Once your payment has been submitted, you will receive a receipt in an email from PayPal. The "seller donor" will NOT send your item until he/she has received both your payment for the shipping costs and a transaction confirmation from OTC for your donation.
